These oatmeal chocolate chip cookies are soft, chewy and perfect for a picnic, bake sale or after-school treat. All you need to add to these cookies is a glass of cold milk.

Yield: 36-48 cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup firmly-packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 2-1/2 cups oatmeal (rolled oats)
  • 12 oz. semisweet chocolate chips

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Cream butter and sugars with an electric mixer until fluffy.

  3. Beat in eggs and vanilla.

  4. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Mix into dough until incorporated. Do not overmix.

  5. Stir in oatmeal and chocolate chips.

  6. Drop by rounded tablespoonsful onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake 10-11 minutes until golden around the edges and still a bit soft in the center.
