Candy for Decorating the Gingerbread House

Stephanie Gallagher
To me, the best part of decorating a gingerbread house is getting creative with the candy.

For this house, I didn't use any of the candy that came with the kit. Instead, I used Good and Plenty, red and green striped white chocolate chips, Skittles, gumdrops, miniature marshmallows and starlight mints.

For the base, I used a large cardboard cake board, vanilla wafers, flaked coconut, miniature Teddy Grahams, two candy canes (for the sleigh), a peanut-shaped marshmallow, purple gel icing, and a graham cracker.

The pre-assembled house comes with a small cardboard base, but I placed it on a larger cardboard base, wrapped in aluminum foil (see Step 8). This is optional.
