Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Chocolate chip cookie bars make a delicious quick dessert, after-school snack or picnic treat. This recipe for chocolate chip cookie bars starts with a cake mix. Although I prefer dark chocolate chips for these cookie bars, use semisweet if you like them better.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

• 1 18.25 oz. yellow cake mix
• 1 large egg
• 1/3 cup canola oil
• 10 oz. dark chocolate chips

Preparation:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13 pan.


2. Beat cake mix, egg and oil together with an electric mixer until the dough becomes crumbly.


3. Remove 1-1/2 cups of the mixture. Press the remaining dough into the prepared pan. Bake 15 minutes or until the crust turns a light brown.


4. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over the top.


5. Top with reserved crumb mixture.


6. Return to oven and bake 14-16 minutes or until light golden brown.

Cut into squares and serve.
