Baked Stuffed French Toast Recipe
This baked French toast recipe has an almost cheesecake-like filling of cream cheese, raspberry jelly and chocolate chips, making it a decadent breakfast worthy of special occasions. Yield: 8-12 servings
Ingredients:
- 4 oz. cream cheese
- 1/2 cup raspberry jelly
- 2 Tbsp. chocolate chips
- 1 loaf French bread
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup half and half or light cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp. salt
Preparation:
- Spray a 9 x 13 pan with cooking spray.
- In a medium bowl, stir together cream cheese, raspberry jelly and chocolate chips.
- Cut French bread into 1/2-inch slices. Spread cream cheese mixture over half of the bread slices. Top with remaining bread slices to make sandwiches. Place sandwiches in prepared pan in a single layer. Cut sandwiches if necessary, to fit.
- Whisk together remaining ingredients. Pour over French bread sandwiches, turning several times to coat well.
- Cover and refrigerate 8-24 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Bake French toast, covered, 30 minutes. Uncover, and bake another 15-20 minutes. Let the baked French toast rest 5-10 minutes before serving.
- Serve with powdered sugar and syrup.
