Recipe for Green Bean Casserole

This recipe for green bean casserole is made without cream soup. Instead, you make a roux of butter and flour, then add sour cream and shredded Swiss cheese. This tasty green bean casserole makes a great dish for parties, holidays and potlucks.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 3-4 dashes hot sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. soy sauce
  • 4 14.5 oz. cans green beans, drained
  • 1-1/2 cups crushed buttery round crackers
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 1-1/2- to 2-quart baking dish with cooking spray.

  2. Melt butter in a medium saucepan. Whisk in flour. cook 2-3 minutes until flour browns lightly.

  3. Whisk in sour cream. Remove from heat and add Swiss cheese. Stir until melted. Add hot sauce and soy sauce.

  4. Place green beans in prepared baking dish. Pour sauce over green beans, stirring to coat thoroughly.

  5. Mix buttery crackers and butter. Sprinkle over green bean casserole.

  6. Bake, uncovered, 20-30 minutes until bubbly.
