Walnut Butter Recipe
Walnuts are a good source of heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids, so I wanted to come up with a way to incorporate them in my kids' diets on a regular basis. This chocolate walnut butter is similar to Nutella (click here for my homemade
chocolate hazelnut spread recipe). Try it in the
kids' lunches, and let me know what you think.
Prep Time: 7 minutes
Total Time: 7 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 cups chopped walnuts
- 1/3 cup dark chocolate chips (such as Ghirardelli 60% cacao chocolate chips)
- 1-3 Tbsp. oil (canola, walnut or olive oil)
Preparation:
- Place walnuts and chocolate chips in the work bowl of a food processor, fitted with a metal blade. Pulse until the mixture starts to become smooth. This will take 3-5 minutes.
- When the walnut butter starts to become smooth, drizzle in the oil, with the food processor still running, starting with one tablespoon at first. You may have to stop the food processor and scrape down the sides to get the proper texture. Continue adding oil until the proper texture for the walnut butter is achieved.
Spread this chocolate walnut butter on apples, carrots or
homemade Italian bread from the bread machine for a tasty snack.
